This Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent: the time we prepare for Christmas. The season of Advent marks the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year and the main characteristics of the season are waiting, hope and renewal. Waiting for the coming of Jesus, hope in a faith-filled future and renewing our commitment to God, family and friends. Advent is a time of preparation for Christmas and, however we choose to do this, may it be done in a spirit of thoughtfulness, love and care with the certainty that God’s blessings will be given to us in abundance.
Tomorrow morning we will host our regular morning assembly in the hall. This will be more comfortable for all as we have many awards to present. Starting at 8.50am we will present the weekly awards, followed by ICAS awards, and finally the "Heart of God" awards.
Congratulations to Mrs Katie Pratt (4th year Prac student with 5Roberts) who has been appointed to work 3 days a week in Year 6 with Mr O’Connell for next year. We also congratulate Mrs Sheena Wijnberg who will be teaching in Year 1 next year. (Miss Jordan Thompson will remain in Year 2 next year and not move to Year 1 as previously advertised).
We also congratulate Mrs Adriana Hindson who was appointed Principal Executive Assistant and will commence in 2020.
An updated staff list will be published once completely finalised.
Following a survey last term and many discussions with our current canteen provider, it has been decided that the contract will not be renewed for 2020. The Community Council are currently managing a tender process for the renovation of canteen facilities and seeking a new provider. More information on the school canteen will be distributed early next year.
Our final Kindergarten Orientation was held today. This was a very successful morning. All our current pre-schoolers are all happy, settled and ready for ‘big school’.
Wishing God’s blessing on you and your families,
During Advent, students from Good Shepherd are given the opportunity to donate items towards Christmas hampers for those in need in Gungahlin. This year each class will be allocated an item to bring in. Notes were sent home this week. The food will be collected on Thursday 12th December so add few items to your shopping list and suppor the families who are doing it tough this Christmas.
On Saturday 14th December, members of the Gungahlin Vinnies Conference will be putting the hampers together before being sent out that weekend. They are looking for volunteers from the school community to come and help pack the hampers. As there is manual handling involved, there will be a few minutes of training so all volunteers are covered.
If you are able to give a hand, please email email@example.com
Children are welcome to come and help too.
Mini Vinnies Social Justice Day
Last Friday, students from Year 5 went to the ACU in Watson to join over 100 students from 13 schools to learn about what services are run by the St Vincent de Paul society. The students had alot of fun and learnt about where their donations go to help people. Some were evern excited about volunteering one day!

Dear TeamKids families,
We would like to remind all families about the importance of notifying our team if your child/ren will not be attending a booked session (Particularly ASC) if they are unwell, have been collected from school early or absent for another reason.
By law, we are required to have all children accounted for in the afternoons within the first 20 minutes of the program. When signing in 100+ children this process can take some time, and lately, we have been finding that a large number of children on our rolls are not turning up to a session. This requires us to contact families of the children and is quite a lengthy process when there are 5-10 children that require contact. This also requires an educator who would usually be on the floor supervising to be contacting parents sometimes up until 4 pm, and sometimes another who needs to scan the school grounds.
We are also finding that of the parents we contact, many cannot be reached due to work circumstances.
If we are unable to make contact with parents and emergency contacts to locate the whereabouts of your child/ren, we are required to contact the police for assistance as the child is considered missing until formally located. As you can probably understand, this can be very distressing for educators in situations that can easily be avoided.
- Please review all your bookings and cancel any session that you know that you don't require in advance which assists us to know the expected number of children and ensure that the contact information is the most up to date and one that we can reach you on during service hours in the case of an emergency.
- If on the day and your child is sick, please send a text or call our service phone on 0439082034
If you collect your child from school at pickup time, please pop into the hall and advise one of our team that you have/ are collecting your child
These steps will ensure that all children are accounted for and signed in within a timely manner, and more time will be given for fun with your children.
If you have any further questions regarding this process, please feel free to pop in and speak to one of our friendly team.
Next Thursday, 5 December will be the last week for children to order their prizes.
Last day of banking for 2019 is Thursday, 12 December.
