We come to the end of what, for many of us, has been a fast disappearing third term. Like the sporting contest, where the third quarter, or that time straight after half-time, is seen as crucial, the third term can seemingly set the path for how the year is viewed come December. We can be well pleased knowing that there is a good platform in place.
Congratulations to the students who received their First Communion at the weekend. What a privilege it was to participate in the First Eucharist Masses, and we all have reason to be very proud of our children because they participated with such reverence in the celebrations.
On behalf of all I express our appreciation to Father Mark and Father Jiss for all they do for our children and families. Thank you to our terrific teachers, Maddy, Shannon, Christine and Yolanda for all their work in preparing the children for their First Eucharist. A special thanks to Anthony O’Connell (REC) and Louise Johnson (Sacramental Coordinator) who coordinated such a terrific programme.
First Eucharist is one of the many significant occasions when we feel honoured to work in partnership with our parents and parish.
Following an application and interview process, I congratulate Keith Roberts, Michelle Norris and Kate Freeman on being appointed as permanent teachers at Good Shepherd from 2019. Congratulations!
Mrs Amy Kouparitsis will be going on maternity leave from Week 6 next term. The class teacher for the rest of the year will be Mrs Debbie Wells. We wish Amy all the best as she prepares for the birth of her first child.
Mrs Tracey Kenna has resigned from Good Shepherd Primary School. Tracey has been a staff member since 2005 and is a much-loved and committed teacher. Tracey will continue relief teaching next year and am sure she will spend many days here in 2020 and beyond! Best wishes Tracey for the future.
Miss Yolanda Kolek has been appointed permanent teacher at Holy Spirit Nicholls from 2020. Mr Patrick Van Tassel has also been appointed teacher (temporary) at Holy spirit Nicholls for 2020 only. We congratulate Pat and Yolanda on their appointments.
Finally, congratulations go to Mrs Melinda Hall-O’Brien (Assistant Principal) and Mrs Diana Jones (Coordinator) who have recently been reappointed to their positions following an extensive performance review.
Thank you for all you have done to support us during the term. I wish you and your children an enjoyable Spring break.
Wishing God’s blessing on you and your family,
CONGRATULATIONS CHARLIE AND OLIVIA!
Last Friday the Speaker from the ACT Legislative Assembly, Minister Joy Burch presented awards to two Year 6 students - Charlie Rae and Olivia Vroomans at our morning assembly. These awards recognise community and school spirit and are awarded to Year 6 students across Primary schools in Canberra.
HOT SHOTS TENNIS GALA DAY
Despite the wind and rain, a great day was had by all. Two teams from each school; Good Shepherd, Mother Theresa and Harrison played in 5 different rounds of double and mixed doubles. Mother Theresa 1 were the victors with Good Shepherd 1 coming runners up. Congratulations to all the players in the Good Shepherd teams who displayed enthusiasm and consideration for others, along with some fabulous tennis skills. A very big thank you to Bec Bubear (Joseph Ali's mum) for looking after and encouraging GS team 2 throughout the day.
NETBALL GALA DAY
Two teams, The Tornadoes and The Cyclones, comprising girls from Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic day of netball games in the second opportunity of the Primary Schools Netball Gala Days. Both teams played well, with The Tornadoes winning 4 out of 5 of their games and The Cyclones winning 2 of their games. The Tornadoes won their pool but narrowly missed progressing to the next level. Al the girls were commended for their fair play and enthusiasm.
Thank you to Dinah Bryant, Nicole Van Dalen, Natalie Lehmann and Sarah Higinbotham for coaching and managing.
Community Council Update
During the October holiday new bollards, like those at Amaroo School will be installed at the front of our school, prior to rejuvenation of the ground and replanting. Please be aware this will have an impact on those of you who park in this area.
The Good Shepherd Netball club held their end of season presentation on Friday. A great season was enjoyed by all, with our GS Mum’s team reaching the Grand Final. Well done everyone!
We have sent out three (3) requests for tenders for this project. We are hoping the successful company will complete the renovations in the December / January holidays.
Bunnings BBQ – Sunday, 27October
We have been allocated Sunday, 27 October to operate the BBQ at Bunnings Gungahlin. We need your help! Please email the Community Council at email@example.com with your availability and we will arrange a roster. Even an hour will help.
This is a major fundraising opportunity for our school.
All funds raised will be used to provide landscaping improvements after all building works at school have been completed, and to support the children’s Gardening Club.
Working Bee-Sunday, 10 November 10:30-12.30pm
We will be hosting a Working Bee on Sunday, 10 November from 10:30-12.30pm. Please mark this in your diaries and try to assist the school. The Community Council will provide pizzas and drinks for lunch. Many hands make light work.
