Dear parents and carers,
STEM Fair congratulations
A huge thank you to everyone - staff, students, and parents for the incredible time, thought, and preparation that went into this year’s STEM Fair. The calibre of stalls and displays was second to none, making it a fantastic way to celebrate STEM learning at Good Shepherd. Our children were simply sensational, and it’s clear they were supported by brilliant parents and grandparents. I am already excited for STEM 2025!
Well done everyone!!
Tell Them From Me survey
Thank you to all the families that have taken the time to complete the survey. It can be translated into multiple languages, if that is helpful for completion purposes.
Year 4 camp
We wish the Year 4 staff and students well for the Year 4 camp this week. Please note, staff are supervising during the camp activities, so minimal social media posting and informal updates will occur. Please do not call the front office regarding camp unless it is an emergency. Estimated time of arrival back in to Canberra on Friday afternoon will be posted on Compass and social media.
Hall - official opening
Our Hall opening this past Tuesday was a beautiful ceremony full of prayerful reflection and a few speeches! It was wonderful to have with us Archbishop Christopher Prowse, the Deputy Director of Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn, Dr Tony Bracken representing Mr Ross Fox, and the Honorable MLA Mr Michael Petterson, to bless and open our Hall.
Parent information
As promised please find copies attached of our Behaviour Support and Student Wellbeing and our Home Learning statements of practice. We hope these documents will serve to inform parents of our practices here at Good Shepherd.
Good wishes for the week
Trazel
On Tuesday we had his Grace, Archbishop Christopher Prowse visit our school to bless and officially open our newly refurbished school Hall. His Grace had many wise words to share with us. It was a wonderful ocassion and the students did themselves proud.
Heavenly Father, we come together in Your presence in our newly refurbished Hall. May we always be grateful for the things that you have given us. We strive to be like you, good shepherds in our school community, so that together we are the heart of God in Amaroo. We do this in honour of Your goodness. Amen.
There was a great message, all about patience and forgiveness, in this week’s Mass readings that is relevant for all of us, particularly for our Year 3 students, who will soon celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation.
We were reminded to have patience and to show compassion and mercy to others, even when they annoy us, upset us or frustrate us. We were encouraged not to forget the times when we have annoyed, upset or frustrated others, and we will look to them and God for understanding and forgiveness. We need to follow God’s example - He is constantly forgiving us and being patient with us.
Considering the well-researched benefits of Christian Meditation, our students and staff have reintroduced Christian Meditation into regular practice during staff and class prayer. The following information about Christian Meditation is taken from the summary document which was developed by the Centre for Children and Young People (CCYP) at Southern Cross University. It is derived from a comprehensive research review and the details are available here:
https://www.scu.edu.au/centrefor-children-and-young-people/our-research/meditation-in-schools/
Meditation is a universal spiritual wisdom. It is a practice found at the core of all the great religious traditions. In Christianity, this contemplative dimension of faith and prayer is rooted in the Gospel teaching of Jesus and the Christian mystical tradition.
Benefits
Scientific research shows that practising meditation offers many potential benefits to children. These include clinical improvements in mental and physical health, as well as strengthening emotional and behavioural regulation, stress management and concentration.

MyWay+ is Transport Canberra’s next generation ticketing system which puts all public transport services in one place. It will offer more ways to pay for public transport and introduce new digital platforms for journey planning and accessing real-time information.
The switch-over to MyWay+ will happen later this year. Until then, students should continue to use their current MyWay card or a paper ticket from a ticket vending machine, to pay for travel on bus and light rail services.
Families should ensure their child’s MyWay card is registered to protect the balance, as Transport Canberra can only process refunds and transfer credits for registered MyWay cards.
