Dear parents and carers,
We're excited to share that our kindergarten students have reached their 100 days of school milestone! Whilst this might not seem like a big deal for bigger kids, 100 days ago our newest Good Shepherd students took the first tentative steps towards what we hope will be a lifetime of learning.
Our newly refurbished hall has been buzzing with excitement as students have particpated in sensational drama performances throughout the week. The hall is now such a wonderful space for teaching and learning.
Save the Date: Dr. Justin Coulsen's "Digital Kids" Presentation
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Justin Coulsen will be visiting JPC next Tuesday, 6th August. Dr. Coulsen will present his insightful talk, "Digital Kids," which focuses on the impact of digital technology on our children's lives.
All staff from our Gungahlin Catholic schools will be participating in a workshop with Dr. Coulsen earlier in the day, followed by the parent presentation in the evening. This promises to be an excellent event, providing valuable insights for both educators and parents.
Don't miss out on this opportunity! Get your tickets via the JPC website. https://www.jpc.act.edu.au Looking forward to seeing you there!
Warm regards
Trazel
This week Father Troy spoke with members of our parent community as well as members of our staff community, about the significance, benefits, and healing power of the blessed Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The message is clear - God loves each of us unconditionally. God is ever-present and here for us whenever we need Him. God is ready to find us when we are lost or guide us when we are unsure. God shows us compassion, mercy, and forgiveness when we mess up and he nourishes and sustains us spiritually.
Sometimes when it is hard for us to see or feel God’s love, it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. In fact, because God DOES love us, He created a way for His life and love to come to us and reside within us. God did this through the Sacraments.
The Sacraments of the Church (e.g. Baptism, Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation) are physical signs of God’s love, where rituals and beautiful liturgies that humans can experience, become opportunities for true encounter with God. These Sacraments of the Catholic Church are not just symbolic, they are transformational, providing God’s actual life and love within us.
Father Troy used the story of the Forgiving Father (Luke 15:11-32) or as it is sometimes referred to, The Prodigal Son, to unpack the Sacrament of Reconciliation and God’s compassionate, merciful, forgiving nature.
Many of you will know this story as it is one of the better-known parables Jesus told. The story reminds us of God’s unconditional love. No matter how far away from or close to God we are, He never stops loving us and will always forgive us and welcome us back.
Let us pray together:
God of compassion and mercy, your love for us knows no bounds.
Send us your Holy Spirit to help us see ourselves as you see us.
Give us wisdom that we may recognise our need for forgiveness, and so celebrate your gift of reconciling peace.
Help us to know what we have done wrong and to be truly sorry.
This we ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
