Dear parents and carers,
The best part of my job as Principal is visiting classrooms. I have been able to spend significant time visiting classrooms over the last 3 weeks to observe our explicit, low-variance curriculum being taught across K-6. As a curriculum enthusiast, I participated in Year 3 reading fluency and was impressed with the students and their ever-increasing capacity for reading. I was also thrilled to spend time in Year 4 Spelling Mastery sessions, and watching students’ confidence grow in their spelling abilities is impressive.
Year 6: Save the date!
I would like to take the opportunity to invite Year 6 parents and carers to attend the Year 6 leadership badge liturgy on 21st March at 2pm in the Holy Spirit church. We are blessed to have Fr Troy Bobbin leading this liturgy as we congratulate Year 6 as the leaders of our amazing school.
NAPLAN information for parents and carers
NAPLAN is fast approaching, and parents will find information brochures attached to this newsletter. Last year I was part of the national committee to review and refine the punctuation, grammar, and spelling components of NAPLAN to make the NAPLAN experience better for all of our children. https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/for-parents-carers
Have a great week!
Good wishes
Trazel
We are now into our THIRD week of Lent. Let us focus on two key readings from the Sunday Mass.
The first reading comes from Exodus 20:1-17. God created a covenant with his people, an agreement (or promise) that was made with unconditional love for them. In return, God’s people had a responsibility to follow God’s Commandments.
These commands were given to the Israelites just after they escaped from Egypt and were a bit overwhelmed with the enormity of what had just happened and of all they were going to need to do now as they reestablished a new community of believers. In a similar way, we have laws and rules in society, in the classroom and in the home, that help everyone to live safely, responsibly and happily together.
Here are a list of simple commandments (care of Liturgia) you may wish to use with your children at home during this third week of Lent (and beyond):
- Love God
- Speak with respect about God
- Pray often
- Respect your parents
- Look after all living things
- Keep your promises
- Respect what belongs to others
- Tell the truth
- & 10. Be satisfied with what you have.
The Third Sunday of Lent’s Gospel reading comes from John 2:13-25 and describes the scene where Jesus goes to the temple to find everyone in there disrespecting this most holy, sacred place, and he gets righteously angry about. In this situation Jesus was experiencing “righteous anger” – he was angry about something that was not right. This righteous anger comes from a different place to the anger that is born of hatred, jealously or selfishness.
It would have been unusual, unexpected, unanticipated, and frightening to see Jesus behave this angrily. He was incredibly upset, frustrated and angry, seeing that the temple was being used for making money instead of for worshipping God. Everyone had become distracted by and focused on the busyness and demands of daily life. They had forgotten about God and were disrespecting his place of worship and all that is sacred.
Let us pray together this prayer from GPBS:
In the noise of the Temple, Jesus made a holy place. In the ushing and the shoving, Jesus made a holy place. In the busy times at school, Jesus, make a holy place. In the bustle of my home, Jesus, make a holy place. In the quiet of my heart, Jesus, make a holy place. Amen.
During their grade Liturgy, the Year 2 students prayed to God, asking God to help them to be brave during this Lent by taking off any masks they may use to hide their true selves. They also prayed to the Holy Spirit, asking for strength to share their true selves with God as well as with their families, friends, and teachers. Finally, they prayed for the chance to grow closer to you in the choices they make.
The Gospel reading came from Matthew and emphasised the fact that Jesus didn’t come to abolish any laws, conversely, he came to fulfill the words of the prophets and to complete the laws. Jesus also emphasised just how important it is for each of us to be responsible and follow the Laws and Commandments.

Dear Defence parents and carers,
Defence Kids Club is for current serving and ex serving Defence children to attend with one friend on Tuesday and Thursday lunch times. Defence Kids Club is to help Defence children have a fun, safe place at school to help them make new friends and allow me to check in with them and chat to them about how they are going.
At Defence Kids Club we do things like craft activities, boardgames, chalk drawing, bubbles, treasure hunts and paper plane competitions. Often the older Defence children will support the younger children when a parent is absent or they need a friendly child who understands what it is like to live the Defence life.
Please do not heistate to contact me with any questions.
Thanks
