Athletics Years 2 - 6
Congratulations to all who received ribbons during this week for Athletics events. It was pleasing to see the enthusiasm and participation across both track and field events. The overall house winners will be announced on Thursday August 1st.
Students who have qualified to represent Good Shepherd at the North Gungahlin Regional Track and Field competition on 30th August at the AIS, will receive letters during week 3 of term.
Further information about the event can be found at https://www.schoolsportact.asn.au/ under the sports tab, then under track and field.
Thank you ...
* to the teachers who prepared the students for the events, organised students for races, ran novelty events and encouraged all to be their best.
* to all the parents who volunteered to help on the day of our Athletics Carnival and support the school community. Your timekeeping, place judging, cheering and willingness to be on your feet all day was very much appreciated.
A huge thank you to the kinder and Year 1 parents who jumped in and supported the students through our rotations. It was wonderful see so many families on the day joining in on the fun. Your support for the little ones in our school was most appreciated.
We commenced our Peer Support sessions on Monday with a very successful start.
The whole school participates in Peer Support for 25 minutes each week. Two Peer leaders facilitate a small group of 12 younger students, who work together through a number of structured activities. We are working on a module called 'Keeping Friends' helping us explore the concept of friendship, build relationships and develop skills in empathy and critical thinking. The module runs for 8 sessions. Our first session enables the children to get to know everyone in their group, agreeing on how they will work together and interact cooperatively with others. They will also begin to think about the meaning of friendship. We encourage you to talk to your children about Peer Support every week as it will help to reinforce the concepts learned in each session.
